Thsese cute cupcake toppers are so easy to make: inflate the balloon but not fully, tie it off and poke the blunt end of a skewer or tooth pick into the knot.

Fringe Tassel Tail Balloons

Tassel Tail Balloons are still a hot party decoration for 2014. You may remember last year I posted a D.I.Y how to make tassel tails for big balloons. Well I thought I would share with you a little balloon-tail cheat.

Tassel tails, (although they look amazing) are quite time consuming to construct, a very quick cheat to get a similar effect is to add fringe garland tails to your balloons.

Balloon Tassel Tail

Trust me kids love these, so for a cheap but ‘jaw-dropping-wow’ feature to a child’s party add fringe tassel tails to your balloons, these are also beautiful for weddings and can be achieved in practically no time and at very little cost. They also make a beautiful little gift for a birthday, baby shower etc.

Balloon Fringe Tassel Garland

Fringe Festooning comes in 5m lengths (more than enough for 5 balloons if you use just one strand), combine a couple of colours and strands for best effect. Simply attach the garlands to the tied base of the balloon with a little piece of glitter tape. These garlands are stronger than you might think but if you are using with Big Balloons take the measure of add a piece of strong ribbon along with the garlands as the piece to be held/tethered to avoid losing your beautiful balloon!

Big round balloons have been seen gracing the pages of some fabulous wedding magazines lately and they do look amazing! I love these balloons more for their appeal to children, the big, soft, over-sized, dream-like nature to these giant balls is straight out of Fairy-tale Land. This shot from A Subtle Revelry is just so beautiful. These balloons look fabulous and when used for children I think they are far more fun without helium. Pretty Little Party Shop have a range of these perfectly round 3ft balloons for sale.

Mini Balloons are one of my new finds although I am sure that balloon stylists have been using them for years. These little 5″ balloons are just adorable, I have seen them stuffed by the dozen into other clear 11″ balloons and have also seen them mixed in displays with other sized balloons. Here Oh Happy Day cleverly used them as oh so cute place-card holders.

Tassel Tails Big Balloons – DIY

Tassel Tails for Big Balloons – DIY Intructions

Tassel Tail for Big Balloon

I love the impact that our 3ft Big Balloons make, add a tassel tail and they become a real statement piece and provide a touch of theatre to any occasion. You can buy tassel tails for balloons from a number of suppliers for upwards of £30 a piece! With a half an hour to spare and a few sheets of tissue paper you can make one of these for a matter of pence (and something that is hand made is just that little bit extra special).

You will need:

Sheets of Tissue Paper 50x75cm (1 sheet for each tassel, I used 5 tassels)

A sharp pair of scissors

2 meter length of lace trim

other oddments of lace or lightweight ribbon

Fold your sheet of tissue paper in half legthways and then in half widthways

Carefully cut from the bottom edge of your paper up to an inch from the lengthway fold. Make each fringe about 1/2″ wide

Continue along the whole of the folded sheet

unfold the widthway fold and give the fringe a gentle shake to unstick the fringing.

Starting at one end of top uncut section of the paper, gentle roll the paper together

Tie tightly with a piece of lightweight ribbon

With one end of the ribbon you used to tie the paper together with, wrap it around the end of your tassel and tie securely

You have a finished tassel, now make some more!

Lay the length of pretty lace out straight across the floor or table. Tie each tassel to the length of lace approx. 15cm apart from each other. Add any other bits of ribbon and lace as you wish.

You can now tie the finished tassel to your inflated balloon

Tiny Balloons – Party Trend!

Tiny little Balloons are my new favorite party decoration. So cute and versatile these balloons can be filled with helium (a tiny and very inexpensive amount!) or can be blown up with puff and attached to balloon sticks. I tape them to striped paper straws.

Beautiful Balloons in a Greenhouse

Balloons From Seed

What do you grow in your greenhouse?

We recently organised a photo shoot for some of the shops lovely new products. As it was due to be a sunny day and as I was emptying our rickety old greenhouse ready for its timely demolition I thought it would be fun to somehow include it in some of the shots. So what could be more apt than to fill it with balloons! I hurriedly started blowing them up (yes no gadgetry involved just plain ol’ puff) and was thinking what a super idea this was…an hour later with only the floor of the greenhouse covered, red cheeked and parched I wasn’t feeling quite so jolly!
I love the results though, well done again to the super camera action of Abigail Fahey.
